The University of Bologna, Alma Mater Studiorum, (Unibo) is one of the most important institutions of higher education across Europe. Unibo offers a vast array of programmes, both at the first, second and third cycle of studies and is fully committed to the implementation of the Bologna process action lines. The Department of Agricultural Sciences (DipSA - Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie) works in various fields of agronomic and environmental research, such as non-food crops, crop physiology, plant genetics and biotechnology, plant pathology, soil conservation, agricultural entomology, applied plant ecology, etc.. The Agronomy and Crop Science Area of the Department provides state wide leadership in research, teaching, and extension in the subjects of horticulture, crop production, sustainable agricultural systems and environment, land management and use, and applied plant ecology. DipSA (formely DISTA) have organized the 2nd international conference on Landscape and Urban Horticulture in 2009 focused on themes dealing with the relationship “People – Plants - Quality of Life”. DipSA is also committed in school and adults education, and it is involved in several activities related to horticulture and urban farming: including projects with primary schools pupils and teachers as well as with people with disabilities and elders, immigrants and unemployed.
